Ju-Jitsu
(Elite Training)
Ju-Jitsu is an ancient, Japanese fighting art
from which many other arts draw their origins. Tested on the
battlefields of feud al Japan, some of the earliest records of Ju-Jitsu
like techniques can be traced back to 23 B.C. Daito Ryu Ju-Jitsu (or
Aikijujitsu) emerged
in the late Nara period (650 to 793 A.D.). Developed from the
techniques used with the primary weapons of the day, this became the
basis for many modern arts such as Aikido, Hapkido, Hwarangdo, and Kuk
Sool Won. Ju-jitsu today is a very effective defensive art that also
teaches offensive techniques.
A very aggressive art, Ju-Jitsu utilizes strikes,
kicks, chops, locks, throws, chokes and vital strikes against an
opponent. The core principle of this art is efficiency -- maximum effect with minimal effort. No effort is wasted on flowery or ineffective techniques. The goal is to quickly and decisively end a confrontation.
The human body has over 240 separate pressure and
nerve points that can be used to cause discomfort, stunning, or
unconsciousness. In Ju-Jitsu class, students learn to attack these
points as an adjunct to other techniques. This type of attack is called
Atemi-Waza.
The Ju-Jitsu taught at THE DOJO is made up of elements of
Budoshin, KoKushi-Ryu, and traditional Japanese styles. Because
of the aggressive nature of the art, this
class is considered Elite Training and admission to the class
is selective. The Head Instructor will evaluate a student's past
experience and abilities before admittance is accepted.
No one younger than 15 years old will
be admitted to Ju-Jitsu training.
